Page last edited: | Band of the month - June 2009This page is part of the bands section The Waits have split up. This page is an archive copy The WaitsIndie, new wave band, The Waits, are based in Coalville and have gained a solid reputation since they appeared on the local scene. In June they were the overall winning band in the Empire Band of the Land Competition, playing a strong set of their modern sounding indie songs on the upstairs stage at Leicester Square. The trio of musicians comprises three best friends: Dave Hammersley, Jake Moretta and Scott Powell. The band played in the Surface Unsigned competition on Friday 20th February and qualified for the next round and got the industry vote. The reviewer at that gig wrote: " Their sound is upbeat, melody-driven Indie-Rock distinguished by some excellent songs full of vocal and guitar hooks. Dave has a great voice (and some well used backing vocals from both Jake and Scott) which fits their sound perfectly; he is also a strong, engaging frontman for a band with an all-round confident and charismatic stage manner" and concluded that they were a band with real potential. Good vocals, modern upbeat songs and catchy melodies make the Waits a band with a growing following in Leicestershire. Sadly the Waits split up but members of the band have gone on to join other bands ans are still playing in the Midlands. |
