Leicester 6th Weekend Warriors programme will start next week.
The idea is to give lapsed musicians a helping hand to re-join a band and relive their musical youth.
It’s run in by Dan Britton and Sheehans music services who will help with the equipment, rehearsal space, and mentors to provide advice and support.
It starts with an induction evening where you join other Warriors and get a chance to talk about what you would like to perform, taking the first steps to forming your new band.
Then after six rehearsals you play your own live gig in front of family and friends. You have all met people over the years who might mention playing in a band when they were younger.
Some of them still have their favourite guitar hidden away and occassionally pick it up and remember the fun that it used to be.
Then it gets quietly packed away into the flight case and tucked away for none to see or hear - In 2006 - Dan Britton and Sheehans Music services started a scheme to help with that and the Weekend Warriors ball was rolling. At the introduction evening over twenty nervous 'mature' musicians shuffled into Sheehans Music shop , not knowing quite what was going to happen and gradually realised that by the end of the evening , they had agreed to be in a band !and to come back to Stayfree rehearsal rooms every Saturday afternoon for just two hours of their weekend for six weeks to become fully fledged weekend warriors.
Week by week , the 'born- again ' musos arrived and plugged away doggedly learning or relearning classics to perform - until finally , the rehearsal before the gig was upon them.
The Musician starting to fill with the a mixture of unlikely looking rock stars,
and then the audience flooded in !
The night was fantastic for everyone concerned and since then Dan and his band of helpers have managed to re-create the same magic fomula five times.
