Exhibition offers a taste of China

VISITORS to Leicester's medieval Guildhall will be able to experience the rich culture of China at a new exhibition launching next week.

A Taste of China: Ancient & Modern runs from March 5th to 10th, and will include displays of traditional art and craft, including calligraphy, ceramics and paintings. There will also be a programme of films and talks, as well as demonstrations of calligraphy and Tai Chi running during the week-long exhibition.

Chinese calligraphy demonstrations will be held on Monday (5th) and Wednesday (7th) at 2pm, and on Saturday (10th) at 1pm. Dr Toby Lincoln, from the University of Leicester School of Historical Studies, will be presenting an illustrated talk entitled Paris of the East on Tuesday (6th).

There will also be screenings of Chinese films at 12noon and 3pm on each day of the exhibition and a Tai Chi demonstration on Saturday (10th) from 3pm. The exhibition was been organised by The Society for Intercultural Understanding in Leicester and Leicester City Council museums service.

Exhibits have been provided by The Chinese Cultural Office of the Chinese Embassy in London, the Leicester Chinese Community Centre, and by Chinese students from the University of Leicester.

The free exhibition is open to the public from 11am to 4.30 pm on Monday to Wednesday, and on Saturday.

Friday 10th February

Exposed

An art exhibition a called Exposed takes place today and there will be four artists - Sam Boulton, Andreas Skoufairs, Lewis Grant, Jazzy Page - exhibiting, all of them being third year students and applying for the MA to the Royal Academy. There will also be live painting on a huge canvas and two live bands.

The exhibition takes place in the Malcolm Arcade in the markets area of the city centre.
