YOUNG PHOTOGRAPHERS LOOK THROUGH
NATURE'S LENS
Students from Shepshed's Hind Leys College will be showing us the world through "Nature's Lens" at the Pixel and Grain Gallery, Loughborough Town Hall from now until August.
"Nature's Lens" is the title of a stunning new collection of photographs taken by the college's highly talented A-Level photography students and is the culmination of a natural history project undertaken this year.
This project was organised by Leicestershire County Council's Community Heritage Project (CHI), funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Rutland Council.
The first stage of the project was a visit to the Outwoods in Charnwood with renowned naturalist and media personality Colin Green.
This nature walk encouraged the students to look at things in a different way and helped give them a new perspective not only on the natural environment around them but also on their photography.
This was followed by a visit to Leicestershire County Council's Collection Resources Centre at Barrow upon Soar, which offers unique behind the scenes access to the County Council's museum collections.
Here, the students learnt about the natural history collections stored there and the challenges in photographing them.
"Nature's Lens" features a selection of some of the images taken on both of these visits and runs at the Pixel and Grain Gallery, Loughborough Town Hall until August 1st.
For more information on this and future exhibitions, contact Natalie Chabaud at Charnwood Arts on 01509-822558

Richard Freer
Visual Artist from Leicester
I am a painter based in Leicester. My work is exhibited in art galleries throughout the country, I also create work for a number of art consultancies. I work on commission and sell work through my website or by people visiting my studio. My work can also be leased for a period of time.
My paintings are oils on canvas, I also produce pastel drawings and graphite work.
The subject for my work is normally skyscapes, beaches, landscapes or scenes in nature.
My work is semi abstract and plays with the boundaries between representation and abstraction.
While creating my
work I am referring to the subject and
trying to capture its characteristics,
but at the same time I am developing unique
relationships between colours and textures
on the canvas and allowing the work to
partly develop its own atmosphere and character
separately from the subject.
My paintings reflect
as much about themselves as they do about
the scenes they are based on. web site

Maxine Beuret
As a photographer, I explore different
cultural environments in the context
of time passing - in particular looking
at fading aspects of life and human activity.
This is expressed through a focus on
design and aesthetics. My intention is
to articulate my emotional response to
a chosen space.
Finally it could be said that my work
involves a certain aspect of preservation,
based in a need to document places that
may be disappearing. Maxine Beuret web

Trespassonforgottensouls
At present I have been
working on the series Trespass on Forgotten
Souls for the last year and a half.
I became interested
in the art of Urban Exploration after
seeing a Documentary on Channel 2,
I have always been interested in exploring
places that used to have a meaning
too but now stand alone, un loved by
the people that once used it.
The Eire
presence you get from being in a place
that was once inhabited by people going
about their business is the main driving
force for producing this Exhibition.
